FIRELOGS VS HEAT LOGS: WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF SWITCHING FROM CONVENTIONAL FIRELOGS TO HEAT LOGS?

If you’ve never used heat logs before you may be wondering what the difference is between firewood and heat logs.

Heat logs are traditionally made from agricultural fibres and other combustible materials such as compressed hardwood shavings and sawdust shavings which are then formed into a cylindrical classic log shape. Heat logs are manufactured by compressing these bi-product materials which are created in sawmills and wood manufacturing facilities.

The benefits of using our eco-compressed heat logs in comparison to firewood is that heat logs are eco-friendly, sustainably manufactured, cost-effective, almost smokeless, space-saving and super easy to light.

EASY LIGHT

Smoke should be expected from all wood materials which are burned, however, most heat logs provide an ultra low smoke output. Ultra low smoke makes for a much more enjoyable burning process.

100% NATURAL

The vast majority of these types of products are sustainably sourced wood products. The logs do not contain any additives, neither do they use binding agents or any form of glue or such like material. Heat logs are perfectly safe to use for open fires, fire pits, pizza ovens, burning stoves and log boilers.

WHY USE HEAT LOGS IN PLACE OF FIRE LOGS?

Heat logs are basically super logs. They burn hotter and often longer than traditional firewood. You build your fire in the same way as you would with other types of log.

Heat logs expand as they burn and allow you to be able to break them into smaller chunks easily. You will not need to use an axe to break up your heat log. Don’t worry, they break easily and you can do it with your bare hands.

WHY DO HEAT LOGS BURN SO WELL?

Heat logs burn so well because they have such a low moisture content. At under 10% moisture, this is less than half the level of many other types of wood.

Dry wood catches light more quickly and burns with a higher temperature and is also less likely to spit and pop, so there’s no risk of hot sparks flying out of your fireplace.

Furthermore, these compressed logs contain more combustible material than a normal wood log of the same size and this is the reason why heat logs can burn for longer.

With heat logs you get all these benefits and more! They are constructed to a consistent production level ensuring each log is made to the same shape, size and weight. So you have complete peace of mind that your logs will arrive perfect every time.

As a comparison, traditional firewood is much more variable in terms of weight and it’s irregular shape which can make it hard to stack and store.

Sellers have also introduced a solid briquette version of the firewood heat log, again it is almost exactly the same as the eco heat logs however in our experience this log is best used as a top up on an existing fire and it great for a really long burn.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM OUR HEAT LOGS

Our logs weight 2kg and contains 10 logs per box. You can use them in log burners and wood stoves, open fires and multi-fuel stoves indoors, or pop some on a fire pit, in a chiminea or an outdoor pizza oven.

We provide multiple heat log options which allows you to choose between our eco, pini kay and solid heat logs. Each heat log option is suited more so to a particular burning apparatus.

WHAT DO HEAT LOGS DO?

Well, they basically act like super logs. They burn hotter and often longer than traditional firewood. They are also really easy to use. You build your fire in the same way as you would with other types of log, but because these logs expand as they burn, you should always break them into smaller chunks before you use them. Don’t worry, they break easily and you can do it with your bare hands, no axe required.

WHY YOU SHOULD BUY YOUR HEAT LOGS FROM US?

Heat logs are ideal if you want a fuel source that gives a long burn time and a high heat output.

  • Our heat logs burn hotter and often longer than traditional firewood.
  • They are also really easy to use.
  • You build your fire in the same way as you would with other types of log, but because these logs expand as they burn, you should always break them into smaller chunks before you use them.

DO YOU BUILD A FIRE IN THE SAME WAY WITH HEAT LOGS AS FIREWOOD?

When you build your fire, start off by laying your kindling, then break your fire log into pieces, which is easy to do by hand. Next, lay your logs over the top. Remember that they fire log chunks will expand as they start to burn so don’t add too much, its much easier to add more logs when needed as it can be very difficult and unsafe to remove burning logs.

Once your fire is ready, pop a couple of natural wood firelighters into the middle of the kindling then use your flameless lighter to ignite them. They will catch the kindling alight which, in turn, will pass the flame onto your fire logs.

It’s that easy!
