STEP 1
Ensure that your fireplace has been swept, We have put together a helpful guide for when a thorough clean is required.
STEP 2
Build a Jenga style structure using kiln dried kindling in your fireplace. Depending on your fireplace size, you should only need 6 to 8 pieces of kindling. Pinewood Fuels can supply Kiln Dried Kindling in 2.5kg sized nets. The kindling is pre-cut and has a low moisture content which aids quick and easy lighting.
STEP 3
Using a firelighter of your choice, place this in the middle of your kindling.
STEP 4
Our USB Rechargeable Lighter is perfect for lighting your firelighter. Once lit, wait until the kindling starts to burn before topping up your fire.
STEP 5
All our Heat Logs can be broken by hand. We recommend breaking 1 log initially into 3 pieces to start your fire. Place the broken log on top of the burning kindling. Don’t forget to wear Heat Resistant Gloves when adding more logs.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
It’s really important to remember that the heat logs will expand and almost double in size when burning. For your average sized Log Burner, we would recommend that you always break your logs in half before carefully adding to the fire. Add gradually to avoid overloading your Log Burner.

What is the difference between solid heat log briquettes and heat logs?
The solid log briquette is slightly different to our other heat logs, this product comprises of mixed compressed wood; however, it does not feature the continuous hole throughout that features in the heat logs.
When is it best to use solid heat log briquettes?
Because of the reduction in airflow, this briquette provides a slower, higher heat burn. This log briquette is perfect for an indoor night-time burn in a log burner or stove, ensuring you wake up to a warm and toasty home. Should you be camping out under the stars, use this solid heat log to reduce the burnout time of your fire pit.
What materials are in heat log briquettes?
Dry, untreated chips of wood and sawdust are pressed together to form wood briquettes. Known as heat logs, they are primarily intended for use as firewood. These particular ones are solid (no hole through the middle), but we sell alternative heat logs that increase airflow.
Is it better to use a heat log briquette instead of natural firewood?
A wood briquette typically contains less than 10% moisture, which is less than the moisture in a wooden log from a felled tree, so it will reach much higher temperatures and burn longer. The superior burning properties of heat logs make them more economical than regular firewood. In addition, heat log briquettes are:
- Easier to light and put out,
- Few to no odours, smokes, or ashes as waste products,
- Great for indoor fireplaces as they are easier to break up into smaller pieces.
Do heat log briquettes burn for a long time?
The average burn time for 2 kilograms of heat log briquettes is 3- 4 hours. There can be some variation here depending on how the fire stove or log burners airflow. As long as the wood doesn’t burn too hot, you can expect this level of performance. In comparison, this is longer than the time conventional firewood takes to burn.
Are heat log briquettes cheaper than firewood?
The cost to use briquettes is generally lower than that of conventional firewood logs. Because they burn for longer and are more economical, you’ll need to buy fewer of them over time. Before a manufacturer can sell natural firewood, it needs to be dried and broken up, a more expensive process than compressed chips and sawdust.
